CertainTeed Flashing Replacement: The Jacksonville Owner’s Guide
We stock and install CertainTeed-compatible flashing replacement across Jacksonville, with most residential flashing repairs running between $450 and $900 installed. In most cases, we can get to your home within a few days, inspect the failed flashing, and give you a written price before we touch a shingle. Flashing failure almost never announces itself loudly. Homeowners usually find out through a slow drip on the ceiling, a water stain that shows up after a heavy northeast Florida rain, or damp drywall near a chimney or skylight. The metal that protects your roof’s seams and transitions has quietly given out, and now water is doing what water does in Jacksonville: finding every path it can.
Which CertainTeed Models This Applies To
CertainTeed flashing components are matched to their shingle lines and accessory systems, not to a single “model” of roof. The flashing pieces we replace most often in Jacksonville are step flashing, chimney flashing, pipe collars, valley metal, and drip edge. These pair with CertainTeed Landmark, Landmark PRO, NorthGate, Presidential Shake, and XT shingle lines, among others. The compatibility question that matters most is whether your flashing was installed as part of a CertainTeed Integrity Roof System or mixed with another manufacturer’s accessories. If it is mixed, we match the replacement to your existing metal dimensions and your shingle profile rather than assuming the original brand sticker tells the whole story.
Here is the field reality: the labels fade, the packaging is long gone, and the old flashing may be so corroded you cannot read a manufacturer stamp. What we check instead is gauge thickness, width, and the way the existing flashing was lapped into the shingle course. CertainTeed’s standard step flashing is typically 10 inches by 12 inches with a 2-inch reveal, usually in 26-gauge or 24-gauge galvanized steel. The aftermarket equivalent is functionally identical in most cases. We keep both OEM CertainTeed flashing and quality aftermarket stock on the truck, and we will tell you honestly if paying the OEM premium is actually buying you anything on a particular repair. Usually, on a 15-year-old roof, it is not.
Birchbark Roofing Jacksonville is an independent roofing contractor. We are not affiliated with or sponsored by CertainTeed, and no “CertainTeed certified” plaster should make you think otherwise. We stock their products because they make a solid flashing system, and because a large share of Jacksonville roofs were built with CertainTeed shingles and accessories.

Signs Your CertainTeed Flashing Replacement Is Failing
- Water staining at the chimney base or along dormer walls. This is step flashing losing its seal. Over time, the thermal expansion and contraction of Jacksonville’s humid summers and cooler winters loosens the laps and lets water wick sideways into the wall assembly.
- A drip that only appears during driving rain. Roof cement and old caulk at flashing joints crack and pull away. Wind-driven rain then finds the gap. If the leak only shows up when rain comes in hard from the east or southeast, suspect flashing before suspecting the shingles themselves.
- Rust streaks or white corrosion crust on exposed metal at the valley or rake. Salt air near the beaches, plus heavy seasonal rain, accelerates galvanic corrosion. Once the zinc coating is spent, the steel underneath has maybe two more Jacksonville summers before it perforates.
- Granules collecting in the gutters below a flashing seam. Shingle granules wash off where water has been channeling over the same spot repeatedly. That tells us the flashing is redirecting water across the shingle face instead of into the gutter.
- Curled or lifted flashing at the drip edge or pipe boot. This one you can see from the ground with binoculars. If the metal has pulled away from the deck, water is already getting behind it, and any roof cement someone smeared on it as a band-aid is temporary at best.
Replacement Cost & What’s Included
For most single-flashing replacements in Jacksonville, you are looking at $450 to $900 installed, depending on how many pieces failed and how much of the surrounding shingle course we need to lift and re-lay. Step flashing along a chimney or wall typically runs on the lower end if the damage is localized. A full valley replacement with new metal and underlayment can push toward the top of that range, and skylight flashing replacement usually lands somewhere in the middle because of the curb work involved. You will see your exact number in writing before we start, and that number does not change once the work begins unless we uncover rot that has to be addressed first, which we will photograph and walk you through on the spot.
Every flashing replacement includes new flashing matched to your CertainTeed shingle profile, new sealant at the laps if the system calls for it, any underlayment the manufacturer specifies for the transition, and all debris removed from the property. The labor is covered by our 365-Day Done Right Promise. If our flashing work does not hold, we make it right, no invoice.

You can safely inspect flashing from the ground or from a ladder that stays below the eave line. Look for lifted metal, missing sealant, rust, and daylight gaps at the roof-to-wall transitions. What you should not do is get onto a Jacksonville roof after a rain and start pulling shingles to “just take a look.” Roofs here grow algae fast, and an algae-slick deck plus a 6/12 pitch is how an afternoon turns into a hospital visit. Flashing replacement also generally requires lifting shingle tabs and re-bedding them, and if you do not get the laps right, you have traded one leak for a bigger one further down the slope.

FAQs
Factory-finished flashing on a properly installed roof should last 20 to 25 years, but Jacksonville’s combination of intense sun, heavy seasonal rain, and salt-adjacent humidity routinely knocks 5 to 8 years off that lifespan for homes east of the Intracoastal. If your flashing is 12 to 15 years old and showing rust or lifted laps, replacing it now is cheaper than fixing the sheathing it will rot next year.
Small gaps at a pipe boot or a single lifted lap can sometimes be re-bedded with fresh sealant and new fasteners, and we will do that if the metal itself is still sound. But once the zinc coating is spent and rust has pitted the surface, sealant will not bond long-term. We will show you the difference up on the roof so the call is yours, not ours.
Most single-transition flashing replacements take a half-day from setup to final clean-up. A full valley replacement or chimney rebuild can run a full day. Shoe covers at the door, drop cloths through the hallway, and a photo of the completed clean-up before we leave are part of every visit.
Yes. We keep standard 10-by-12-inch step flashing in 26-gauge and 24-gauge, pipe collars, drip edge, and valley metal in both OEM CertainTeed and quality aftermarket equivalents on the truck. We also stock flashing for GAF and Owens Corning systems, so if your roof is a mix, we can usually complete the repair in one trip.
