Tamko Shingle Repair: The Jacksonville Owner’s Guide
Tamko shingle repair in Jacksonville typically runs $225 to $575 installed, depending on how many shingles failed and whether the underlayment underneath took water. We stock Tamko-compatible shingles on our trucks and can usually match your existing color and profile the same day. Most Jacksonville homeowners discover they need this repair after a summer thunderstorm peels back a few shingles, or they spot granules collecting in the gutters and realize their Tamko roof is shedding faster than it should.
Here’s the thing about Tamko shingles in Florida: the sun does more long-term damage than the storms do. The UV load in Jacksonville breaks down the asphalt layer, and once the granule coating goes, the mat underneath starts cooking. A failed Tamko shingle rarely announces itself loudly. It curls at the edges, loses its grit, or lifts at a seam where the seal strip finally gave up. By the time you see it from the ground, the shingle below it may already be compromised.
Which Tamko Models This Applies To
Most Tamko shingle repair calls we run in Jacksonville involve the Heritage series, which is Tamko’s dimensional architectural line and by far the most common product on Duval County roofs. Heritage comes in two weights: Heritage 30 and Heritage 50, plus the discontinued Heritage Premium that still sits on thousands of older homes in Riverside, Avondale, and San Marco. We also see the Elite Glass-Seal three-tab line on budget builds from the 1990s and early 2000s, especially in neighborhoods near NAS Jacksonville and the Westside.
Here’s the compatibility gotcha nobody tells you: Tamko dimensional shingles from different production years don’t always lay flat against each other, even when the color name matches. The Heritage vintage line, for example, shifted granule blends over the years. A shingle from 2015 and a shingle from 2023 can both say “Weathered Wood” and still read as a patch from the curb. We measure the exposed reveal and match the profile physically, not just by the color code. Aftermarket equivalents are fine for most repairs, but on Heritage 50 and any Tamko metal-laminated product, we recommend staying with OEM or a profile-matched dimensional aftermarket so the repair doesn’t telegraph itself.
Birchbark Roofing Jacksonville is an independent roofing contractor. We’re not affiliated with Tamko, but we work with their product lines regularly alongside GAF, Owens Corning, CertainTeed, and others, so we know how Tamko materials behave in Florida heat and humidity.

Signs Your Tamko Shingle Repair Is Failing
- Granules in the gutters or at the downspout elbows. Tamko shingles lose surface granules as the asphalt ages. A heavy accumulation, especially after a dry month, means the UV protection is gone and the shingle is getting brittle.
- Curling or cupping at the shingle corners. This happens when moisture gets trapped between the shingle and the underlayment, then Jacksonville’s heat bakes it. The shingle lifts at the edges and becomes a wind catch point.
- Raised or unsealed shingle tabs after a storm. Tamko seal strips lose their grip over time. Once a tab lifts, wind-driven rain gets underneath and rots the shingle course below it.
- Visible dark patches or what looks like oil stains on the shingle surface. That’s exposed asphalt where granules have worn away. In Jacksonville’s climate, that patch will crack and leak within one to two seasons once it’s exposed.
- Missing shingle tabs after high wind. You’ll see the bright underlayment or raw decking. This is past the repair point for that shingle; what matters is whether the shingles around it seal-tested fine or are now loose too.
Each of these has a specific fix. A granule-shedding shingle might just need replacement. A lifted tab can sometimes be resealed if caught early. What we don’t do is slather roofing cement on a failing shingle and call it fixed; that fails again by the next summer thunderstorm.

AfterReplacement Cost & What’s Included
For a small Tamko shingle repair in Jacksonville, most jobs fall between $225 and $575. That’s parts and labor, with a written price in your hand before any work starts. What drives the range: how many shingles are involved, whether we’re on a single-story or two-story roof, how steep the pitch is, and whether the underlayment or flashing needs attention along with the shingles.
| Repair scope | Typical Jacksonville installed price |
|---|---|
| 1-3 Tamko shingles, single-story | $225 – $325 |
| 4-8 Tamko shingles, includes ridge or field repair | $325 – $475 |
| Larger patch plus underlayment repair | $475 – $575+ |
| Flashing or valley repair added to shingle work | Add $75 – $180 |
You’ll see your exact number in writing before we touch a shingle. That price won’t change mid-job, and every repair carries our 365-Day Done Right Promise: if the fix isn’t holding up, we come back and make it right.
DIY or Call Us?
What you can safely do: take photos from the ground, mark the problem area mentally or on a quick sketch, and clear obvious debris from the gutters so water isn’t backing up under the shingles. That helps us assess the scope before we arrive.
What we’d caution against: walking a Tamko roof to replace shingles yourself. Aged Tamko shingles get slick when granule dust mixes with Florida humidity, and a pitched Jacksonville roof is not the place to learn how seal strips behave. You also won’t know if the underlayment underneath is compromised unless you’ve done this before. Roofing repair means working at height with a nail gun and being honest about what the decking looks like under the shingle you just removed. If that’s not your usual Saturday, call a roofer. Call us at (904) 604-7914 and we’ll give you a straight assessment and a written price.
FAQs
In Jacksonville’s heat and humidity, Tamko architectural shingles typically last 15 to 22 years, while three-tab Elite Glass-Seal shingles run closer to 12 to 18 years. The sun is the main killer here, not the storms; the granule coating fails first, then the shingle cracks and lifts.
Sometimes, if the seal strip has lifted but the shingle itself is still flexible and granule-intact, we can reseal it and get a few more years out of it. If it’s cracked, curled, or bald of granules, replacement is the honest fix. Call (904) 604-7914 and we’ll tell you which one you have.
Most single-shin issues and small patches take 30 minutes to two hours, including clean-up. Larger repairs involving underlayment or flashing can run half a day. You’ll have the price in writing before we touch a shingle, so you know the time and the cost up front.
We stock common Tamko Heritage colors on the truck, and we can source less common colors or the Tamko vintage line within a day or two through Jacksonville suppliers. We also work with GAF, Owens Corning, and CertainTeed materials when a non-Tamko product matches your roof better.
