Tamko Ridge Vent Installation: The Jacksonville Owner’s Guide
We stock and install Tamko ridge vent systems throughout Jacksonville, with most full ridge vent replacement jobs running between $850 and $1,600 depending on roof length and access. If your Tamko ridge vent is cracked, lifting, or letting water in around the ridge line, we can usually have it replaced within a few days of your call. Most Jacksonville homeowners discover the problem the same way: a water stain on the ceiling near the peak, granules collecting in the gutters, or shingles at the ridge that look curled and tired while the rest of the roof still has life in it.
A ridge vent is not a luxury add-on. It’s the exhaust half of your attic’s breathing system, and when a Tamko vent fails, heat and moisture build up fast in a Florida attic. We’re an independent Jacksonville roofing company that works with Tamko products daily. We’re not affiliated with Tamko, but we know their ridge vent lines well enough to match the right part to your roof the first time, with a written price in your hand before we touch a shingle.
Which Tamko Models This Applies To
Tamko makes two ridge vent products you’re most likely to have on a Jacksonville roof: the Tamko Metal-Fab Ridge Vent and the Tamko Rapid Ridge rolled vent system. They are not interchangeable, and that’s where we see DIY installs go sideways. Metal-Fab is a rigid, aluminum-profile vent that comes in 4-foot sections and needs a matching Tamko end cap and connector. Rapid Ridge is a flexible, shingle-over roll product that installs differently and breathes through a baffled core. If you have a Tamko hip or ridge shingle line matching the vent, the product label will be printed on the underside of any exposed section you can reach from a ladder. If the label is sun-baked away, measure the vent width: Metal-Fab runs about 11 inches wide including the nailing flange; Rapid Ridge rolls stack closer to 12 inches when laid flat.
The OEM versus aftermarket call matters more with Tamko than most brands. Tamko ridge vents are engineered to pair with Tamko ridge cap shingles, and the nail line and profile match keeps the cap shingles sitting flat. A generic aftermarket vent often leaves a slight hump at the seam that catches wind, and northeast Florida wind is not polite about it. We carry both OEM Tamko vent components and quality aftermarket equivalents on our Jacksonville trucks. Erik Lindgren, our owner, makes the final call on which one goes on your roof based on what’s already up there, what’s available, and what will hold up for the long haul. You’ll know which part and why, and you’ll see it in writing.

Signs Your Tamko Ridge Vent Installation Is Failing
- Water staining on ceilings near interior wall tops or peaks. This is the classic first symptom. The ridge vent’s weather filter or the cap shingles over it have opened a path for wind-driven rain, and Jacksonville gets plenty of it.
- Cracked or brittle vent sections visible from the ground or a ladder. Florida UV turns plastic and composite vent material chalky and fragile in about 10 to 15 years. If you can see daylight through a crack, your attic can too.
- Missing, shifted, or curled ridge cap shingles. The cap shingles protect the vent underneath. When they curl, the vent’s fasteners are exposed and the whole assembly starts working loose.
- Granules from ridge cap shingles collecting at downspout outlets. Tamko caps shed granules as they age, but a sudden heavy run of granules after a storm usually means wind pulled the cap up and scraped it.
- Attic feels noticeably hotter than it used to, or AC struggles upstairs. A blocked or collapsed ridge vent exhaust can push attic temperatures past 140 degrees in a Jacksonville summer, and your air handler pays for it.

AfterReplacement Cost & What’s Included
For a typical Jacksonville single-story ranch with 40 to 50 linear feet of ridge, full Tamko ridge vent replacement with new cap shingles runs $850 to $1,600 installed. A partial section replacement on a short ridge or a simple end cap repair may come in under $400. If the roof decking under the vent is soft or rotted, add roughly $3 per square foot for deck repair, and we’ll show you a photo of the damage before we replace it. Nothing gets added without a conversation and a written updated price.
The price always includes removal and disposal of the old vent and cap, new Tamko or matched-equivalent vent sections, new weather filter, matching cap shingles, and fasteners rated for coastal wind exposure. It also includes the Birchbark part of the job: shoe covers at the door if we need interior access, drop cloths where we walk, all nails from the tear-off swept with a magnetic roller, and a photo of the clean-up before the crew leaves. Every Tamko ridge vent installation we do in Jacksonville is covered by our 365-Day Done Right Promise. If it’s not right, we make it right. You’ll have the price in writing before we touch a shingle.
DIY or Call Us?
What a homeowner can safely do is inspect from the ground with binoculars and check the attic for light penetration at the ridge line during daylight hours. That’s useful information to have when you call us. What you should not do is climb a Jacksonville roof in July and start pulling ridge cap shingles. Roof surface temperatures here run 150 degrees plus in summer, the pitch near the ridge is where falls happen, and lifting cap shingles to guess at a vent match usually ends with a bigger opening than you started with and a rainstorm two days out.
Ridge vent work on a Tamko roof is not a one-part swap. It’s the vent profile, the cap shingle match, the weather filter, the fastener pattern, and the seal. One wrong match and the ridge leaks, slowly, until you notice it from inside. If you want to talk through what you’re seeing before you decide anything, call (904) 604-7914. We’ll help you identify what’s up there, and there’s no charge for the conversation or the estimate.
FAQs
Plan on 12 to 18 years for a Tamko ridge vent in northeast Florida, with the cap shingles typically wearing out slightly before the vent itself. Jacksonville’s UV index, humidity, and afternoon thunderstorm wind cycles age ridge components faster than the national average you’ll see on a manufacturer spec sheet.
Yes, for localized damage like a single cracked section or a shifted end cap. If the cap shingles are granule-bare or the weather filter is deteriorating across the run, a section repair becomes a patch that buys you a year. We’ll tell you which one you have. Call (904) 604-7914 and we’ll give you an honest read, free.
Most single-ridge replacements in Jacksonville are done in one day, including tear-off, new vent installation, cap shingles, and clean-up. If we find decking damage, expect a second day at most. You’ll know the timeline before we start, and the price stays what you signed.
Yes. Our Jacksonville trucks carry Tamko Metal-Fab and Rapid Ridge components, matching Tamko cap shingles, weather filter, and end caps, along with equivalent parts from GAF, Owens Corning, and CertainTeed for other roof brands. Most ridge vent jobs start and finish the same day we arrive.
If your Tamko ridge vent is failing, don’t let one more Jacksonville storm test it. Call (904) 604-7914 for a free estimate. We’ll inspect the ridge line, tell you exactly what’s failing, and put the fix in writing before any work begins. Live person answers, day or night.
